It contains high levels of oxalic acid which gives its leaves a distinctive acid taste.
As well as being a fine addition to food, common sorrel is also a lovely sight in summer when it blooms with small, pinkish flowers.
It is native to the UK.
Found throughout the UK.
Grassland and coastal habitats.

Flowers April to August.
